APRIL Events

Saturday 10th April to Saturday 15th May
Doorway to Silence
An exhibition of paintings by Joan Baker
Click here to see pictures of the Friday evening opening.
General opening: Saturday 10th to Tuesday 20th April,11am to 5pm (except Talk and Meditation on17th April - 11am to 2pm); thereafter every Thursday, Friday and Saturday until 15th May, 2pm to 5pm.

Meditation has been a part of Joan’s life for 25 years and her last exhibition two years ago at Bleddfa affirmed her thoughts on creating more links between meditation, creativity and spirituality. The paintings here travel through traditional watercolours. She calls this her grounding and letting go control, allowing the creativity to come from the quiet space of listening with the eye of the heart. Joan will be resident in the gallery for the first 11 days of the exhibition and will offer two extra events on the 17th and 21st April (see below).
Venue: The Old School Room Gallery

Sunday 18th April
2.30pm to 4.30pm
The Bleddfa Poetry Group
Led by Daphne Turner
(Other dates: Sunday 16th May and Sunday 13th June)
This years poetry season starts with Philip Larkin, a much under-estimated poet, rooted in everyday life, achingly aware of time, death, fear and disappointment, traditionally formal and musical. The next two afternoon sessions will be on Seamus Heaney, whose work is rooted in his Northern Irish Catholic background, even when his concerns shift away from those of his famous early poems about family, farm, social and consequently Northern Irish political life. The strength that Heaney draws from regional life and language will be a helpful introduction to reading Anglo-Welsh poetry later in the year.
Daphne Turner wrote the first book about Alan Bennett’s work, In A Manner of Speaking (1994).
Cost: £5 per session.
Venue:
The Hall Barn

Wednesday 21st April
